Youth, Family, and Mentor Programming
Monday Night Classes
Most of the year is spent training with our apprentices on Monday evenings, but we take 3-4 months to do classes revolving around specific projects that are open to the public to help generate revenue. Click Here To See Up Coming Classes.
We ran a very successful program during the summer of 2018, and have 3 apprentices through the BCHHS PALS program that will continue to be the focus of our programming at HOD.
Heir Island Lobster Boat
Don O’Keefe and Rick McDonough are the Naval Architect and Shipwright leading the build of a traditional wooden 26’ lobster boat. The project is being finished inside our machine room at 101 Bay Beach Rd.
2019 SPRING BUILD - DAGWELL MESSAGE BOAT
Rodger Swanson has chosen the Dagwell Message boat to be our 2019 Spring experimental archaeology project. Following in the footsteps of the success of MARY, our 2017-18 project, we are continuing with our Mackinaw boat heritage, and will strip build this boat with our mentors and apprentices. With a March start date, we will do our best to present this boat at the Tall Ship Festival in July of 2019.
